Position Summary:
The incumbent of this position serves as an Administrative Specialist in one of the Motor Power & Equipment Division of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Office of Railroad Safety (RRS). The incumbent is responsible for primarily providing administrative and program support to the division by planning, performing, and coordinating functions necessary for efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with a variety of sensitive, complex investigative report packages and documents related to regulatory compliance violations, and inspection efficiency metrics to improve divisional performance and to brief senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Generates reports on the status of divisional controls and follows up with drafter to ensure responses are complete on time.
- Prepare various forms of correspondence, maintaining files, assisting with the preparation of time and attendance cards, making travel reservations and the scheduling of appointments for appropriate individuals.
- Responds to correspondence and web inquiries based on knowledge of safety programs, Division protocol and policies and procedures.
- Analyzes correspondence sent to the Division for action in the correspondence management system and works with the Staff Director and Deputy Staff Director to assign to the appropriate division staff for response.
- Analyzes various directives and instructional material pertaining to administrative practices and clerical procedures to be cognizant of new, revised or amended procedures.
Required Education & Experience:
- 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
- You must be a U.S.Citizen and eligible for consideration.
- You must meet specialized experience to qualify.

- Administrative Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
- Experience applying knowledge of administrative concepts, procedures and practices and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods.
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
- A LL.M., if related
- Written Communication – Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Experience with applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to processes, issues or functions related to the administration and support of an office.
- Computer Skills- Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
