Our location in Des Plaines, IL currently has an opportunity for a Facility Maintenance Technician. The Facility Maintenance Technician, reporting to the Facility Manager/Engineer, will provide customer service to manufacturing and support groups in Abbott Molecular through the maintenance of infrastructure systems, identifying and resolving technical/operational problems aimed at improving manufacturing reliability (product quality and operating efficiency).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned.
  • Support the maintenance organization in the writing of work orders and purchase orders by specifying materials, vendor contacts and costing.
  • Manage work activities of vendors and skilled trades.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of equipment must adhere to Abbott Engineering Standards.
  • Working weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Personally, work with all maintenance mechanics, technicians and supervisors to develop and enlarge technical skill base and understanding of assigned areas.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on plant systems, utilities, building and grounds.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and performance of shutdown and major maintenance tasks.
  • Resolve and prevent infrastructure problems that may pose a risk to production or delay on-time deliveries to our customers.
  • Provide technical leadership and investigation for any safety incident and/or activity.
  • Complete all assigned training on time.
  • Active involvement on continuous improvement programs, energy savings measures, safety & compliance tasks.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Strong technical skills including electrical, mechanical, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form.
  • Read schematics and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Be proactive and willing to take initiative and responsibility.
  • Experience working with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system.
  • Ability to plan and organize to ensure timely completion and follow up on assigned tasks.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical Diploma in related field is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working on plant systems and utilities: HVAC, chillers, boilers, air compressors, refrigeration, etc.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) is desirable.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in facility and plant systems related maintenance.
  • Must be familiar with GMP and safe work practices. LOTO, NEC, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills as well as solid reading, writing, math & communication skills.
  • Follow diagnostic and repair procedures from instrument equipment manuals.
  • Fabrication and machining skills.
